Tradescantia occidentalis

The foliage gives the general impression of a cultivated onion, but the blue flowers certainly do not. Tradescantia is differentiated from Commelina by its hairy stamen filaments & having the flowers in an open umbellate inflorescence rather than enveloped by a spathe.

A flower along the Pine Tree Trail at Aguirre Springs on the east side of the Organ Mts., 9/24/05.

An inflorescence at Aguirre Springs, 9/24/05.
