Polygala sanguinea

A plant I know from old fields and forest openings in Indiana, though it also occurs in the southwest.

Plant habit near an old logging road in the Deam Wilderness, 8/6/04.

Closer view of an inflorescence in the Deam Wilderness, 8/6/04. All you're seeing here are bracts, the flowers are small and hidden.
