Flat Lake is a seasonally-flooded playa just north of the northern boundary of the Jornada LTER. A spaceport (a.k.a. hopeless boondoggle) is planned in this general vicinity, though I do not know the precise location intended.

Looking northwest on the shore of Flat Lake, 10 Feb 2007. Point of Rocks is a left, the Upham Hills at righ, and the Caballo Mts. in the distance at center.

A (mostly) dry portion of the lakebed at Flat Lake, 10 Feb 2007. Mountains visible are the same as above.

Mesquite and tobosa on the northwest side of Flat Lake, looking northwest, 10 Feb 2007.

Tobosa swale with mesquite on the northwest side of Flat Lake, looking east at the San Andres, 10 Feb 2007. The high point about 3/4 of the way to the right side of the image is San Andres Peak.

Looking east from the west side of Flat Lake, 10 Feb 2007. Most of the greenery is Hymenoxys odorata, and the mountains are again the San Andres.

Cracked clay on the west side of Flat Lake, 10 Feb 2007.
