Black Mountain is a low cinder cone south of Las Cruces that is being mined for scoria. Somehow it didn't occur to me to photograph the mountain itself, but here are photos from the area.

Looking west from the peak of Black Mt., 3 Feb 2007. The mountains are, from left to right, the East Potrillo Mts., Riley Mountain, and the West Potrillo Mts.

Yucca elata on one of the sand hills on the north side of Black Mt., 3 Feb 2007.

On the east side of Black Mt. are rolling lava flows, partially buried in wind-borne silt. The mountains are the Organ Mountains.
